Judicial CP - August 1996
Times of Zambia, Ndola, 17 August 1996Three Ndola boys to be canedBy Times CorrespondentTHREE Ndola youths including two school boys were yesterday ordered to receive 10 strokes of the cane by principal resident magistrate Roydah Kaoma for defiling a girl below the age of 16. Before Mrs Kaoma was Chansa Musonda, 19, of 3 Makanta road, Kansenshi, unemployed and two grade 12 pupils at a Ndola school. On March 21, last year, they had carnal knowledge of a girl under 16. Musonda who had earlier been refusing to come to court was detained for three months for contempt of court. In mitigation, he said he had learnt a lesson at remand prison and would not repeat what he did. Mrs Kaoma considered the contents of the social welfare reports of the two boys and the plea for leniency by Musonda who was an adult. She said that the three should realise that they had committed a very serious offence for which the maximum sentence is life imprisonment. She said both boys were school going and she would not wish to interrupt their education. She gave them a second chance and warned them against committing such serious crimes. |
