Court Gives Youth Choice Between Workhouse and Paddle.

CANTON, O., May 27. -- (Special.) -- Police Judge Quinn gave George Kuchenbacker, aged 17, the choice of a good paddling or a sentence in the workhouse after the young man had pleaded guilty in Police Court this morning to a charge of stealing a 25-cent bicycle bell. Kuchenbecker chose the paddle, and by order of the court the sentence was executed in the court room by the boy's mother.

"If you had gone down to the workhouse I think you would have learned there only a few more tricks about stealing," said Judge Quinn, "and I guess it is better that you chose the paddling."
