A PRESIDENTIAL guard has been given 100 lashes for allegedly knocking a caravan, which President Yoweri Museveni uses as his mobile office and a bedroom while on safari.

Pte Eric Kajungu, who is attached to the Presidential Guard Brigade support staff, was on Friday handed 100 lashes on the directive of Capt. Charles Bwebale, the officer-in-charge special coy, which provides the inner circle of the President's security.

But PGB spokesman Lt Edison Kwesiga denied Pte. Kajungu was caned because the constitution outlaws corporal punishment.

But State House sources say Pte. Kajungu was lashed before fellow guards at the State House Nakasero parking yard.

A PGB soldier identified only as Lance Corporal Africano was given the duty by Capt. Bwebale to count the lashes as the caning party of three soldiers executed the directive.

The Captain was there to witness the corporal punishment. After the caning, Kajungu was handcuffed and transferred to Katabi PGB barracks near Entebbe for detention.

Pte. Kajungu's ordeal started when he was asked to wash one of the presidential cars. But as he was reversing one of the cars in the parking lot, he reportedly collided with the nearby parked caravan, which infuriated Capt. Bwebale.
