The Nationalist, Dar-es-Salaam, 12 June 19644 years jail for theftNineteen year old Ali Chande of Dar es Salaam was yesterday sentenced to four years' imprisonment and 24 strokes after he was convicted of five charges of house breaking and stealing, by a Dar es Salaam Resident Magistrate, Mr K. Kimicha. Chande had pleaded not guilty to the five counts. Inspector Ahmed Nasser, prosecuting, told the court that on March 14, Chande broke into a house belonging to Rev. John Pupaiosndis with intent to commit felony therein. He added that after the accused had entered the house he stole property worth Shs. 2,755/- from it. The prosecution went on to say that on April 14, Chande entered a dwelling house belonging to Mr Alexander Benaya and stole cash and property to the value of Shs. 400/-. He added that Chande again entered the house of Mr J.A. Golding and stole cash and property all valued at Shs. 413/-. Earlier Chande had refused to give the police his fingerprints. He had ten previous convictions. |
