The Advertiser, Adelaide, 20 February 1960Two Boys To Be Whipped
Appearing on three joint charges alleging the unlawful use of motor vehicles without the consent of the owners, boys of 15 and 13 were ordered eight strokes, and five strokes with a cane, respectively. Their fathers undertook to administer the punishment, in the presence of a police officer. The older boy, for the breach of a good behaviour bond covering two years, on which he had been released after a car offence, had the bond estreated, and was placed under the custody and control of the Children's Welfare Department for a like period. The younger boy also had a broken bond estreated, and a departmental custody and control order until he is 18 was made against him. Each boy was suspended from driving a motor vehicle for an indefinite period. APP Minagall prosecuted; Mr. W.R. Thompson for the Children's Welfare Department. |
