To Be Whipped
A whipping of 10 strokes and three years' gaol was the penalty imposed on an 18-year-old youth for rape.
Graham Walton, of Jersey avenue, Kilburn, had admitted a £30 shopbreaking and larceny at Kilburn, and a £22 larceny at Prospect, and two counts of rape on young women.
On one of the rape counts he was gaoled for three years with the whipping. On the other he was gaoled for 2½ years. On the shop charges he was gaoled for 12 months each.
The sentences were made concurrent.
His Honor said that Walton's conduct and contemptible deception of the girls all suggested that a whipping was needed. Walton had other convictions. Counsel had said all that could be said for him.
