Kenya - Unofficial public caning: Video clip.
Duration: 2 minutes 15 seconds
Date: 2015
Official judicial caning in Kenya was abolished in 2003, but in practice there are public floggings decided upon by local village committees as recorded in this May 2014 illustrated news item.
In this clip, the recipient is a woman accused of adultery. Though the ceremony is described as a "caning", the implements used are not proper rattan canes but rough sticks. The strokes are applied, by various members of the community in turn, in a relatively systematic and focussed manner to the offender's buttocks as she is held lying face down on the ground. For this reason I am classifying it as "proper corporal punishment" rather than random vigilante violence as sometimes seen in many countries.
